We want to hear from reporters, critics, essayists and writers with stories the rest of the world is missing.
What we are looking for
- Reportage — original, on-the-ground reporting.
- Essays and analysis — arguments that change how readers see a place, a problem or an idea.
- Culture — criticism and features on books, music, film and art.
- Interviews — conversations with people who matter but are rarely heard.
- Fiction and poetry — new writing, including translations.
How to pitch
Send a short pitch (no more than 300 words) to contact@easternremarks.com with “Pitch” in the subject line. Tell us:
- what the story is and why it matters now;
- how you will report it, and what access you have;
- a few lines about yourself and links to two or three published pieces.
For fiction and poetry, send the complete text (up to 5,000 words, or up to five poems) as an attachment, with “Fiction” or “Poetry” in the subject line.
What happens next
We read every pitch. If we are interested, an editor will reply within three weeks; if you have not heard from us by then, feel free to send the idea elsewhere. Please do not send the same pitch to several editors at once.
Payment and rights
We pay for commissioned work. Rates, deadlines and rights are agreed in writing before you start. [Add standard rates or remove this sentence.]
